Signet Classics Essay Contest
Signet Classics is hosting their 22nd Annual Student Scholarship Essay Contest, in which five high school juniors or seniors can each win a $1,000 scholarship award to be used toward their higher education plus a Signet Classics library for their school. Essays must be submitted by a high school English teacher on behalf of students who write an essay on one of five topics for this year’s competition book, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriett Jacobs. Essay topics are posted on penguin.com/scessay. Deadline for submission is April 14, 2018.
Bennington College Young Writers Awards Competition
Each year, Bennington College invites students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades to compete in one of the following categories: poetry (a group of three poems), fiction (a short story or one-act play), or nonfiction (a personal or academic essay). First-place winners in each category are awarded a prize of $500; second-place winners receive $250. Submission deadline: November 1, 2017. Penn State Behrend Poetry Contest
Penn State Behrend's School of Humanities and Social Sciences, in conjunction with Barnes and Noble University Bookstores, are sponsoring this year's High School Poetry Contest for their literary journal, Lake Effect.
